The practical benefit is that complex logos stop being a compromise. Artwork that would need a dozen thread colors and still lose its subtleties prints exactly as designed, while the stitching keeps it looking like a patch rather than a sticker.

This is the format for detailed illustrations and mascots, logos with gradients or many colors, event and festival badges, commemorative and race patches, brand crests with fine text, and any design that includes photographic elements.
